Why Not Gannavaram Airport?: Questions are being raised as to the expansion of the existing Gannavaram airport that is less than 20 kilometers from the proposed new capital city. A notification to expand the Gannavaram had already being issued by the government last year. However, most of the lands around the Gannavaram airport belong to TDP leaders thus ruling out any scope for expansion. Therefore the Andhra Pradesh government expects to develop a new airport and convert the existing airport into an cargo exclusive airport.
