Vijayawada: Days after Leader of Opposition and YSR Congress Party president announced his decision to abolish the contributory pension scheme when he comes to power in 2019 elections, government employees unions in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday vowed to fight till the CPS is scrapped.

The employees unions called for laying seizure to AP Assembly at Amaravati in support of their demand. Tension prevailed at Assembly as police arrested employees union leaders to prevent them from reaching Assembly.

The employees have been opposing the CPS as it does not benefit them. In CPS, a percentage of salary of the employees would be deducted towards the pension to be paid after their retirement. This is just like paying the employees their own money saved for years. YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been categorically opposing the scheme and he recently announced that he will abolish it once he comes to power.
