Anti-Brahmin film row: APSHRC seeks report

The Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission on Friday sought a report from the Hyderabad Police Commissioner and Central Board of Film Certification in connection with the attack on members of Brahmin community, allegedly carried out by supporters of Telugu actor-producer M Mohan Babu.

Organisations representing Brahmin community have sought ban on the recently released film Denikaina Ready starring Babu's son Manchu Vishnu, for allegedly derogatory references to the community.
Protests were held in Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Warangal and Medak districts by members of the community against the screenings of the film today. AP Brahmana Seva Sangha Samakhya has filed a petition before the SHRC, seeking a ban on the film. It also said that some members of the Samakhya were beaten up by Mohan Babu's supporters when they tried to hold protest near his house last night. Tension prevailed near the SHRC premises when Vishnu too arrived to file a counter-petition, but was allegedly stopped by members of the Samakhya.
After going through the petition, SHRC sought a report on the Samakhya's complaint by November 16. Mohan Babu and Vishnu have asserted there is nothing objectionable in the film that insults Brahmins.
Earlier, following a court directive, Malkajgiri police here filed a case last Tuesday against Mohan Babu, Vishnu and comedy actor Brahmanandam and its director G Nageswar Reddy on the charges of criminal conspiracy and 'promoting enmity between different groups'.
