Another farmer dies in Hyderabad, 14 end lives in Telangana

Telangana’s capital was jolted on Monday morning as another farmer, this time from Medak, ended his life by hanging near the Pump-house at Secunderabad’s Balamrai.

The farmer, identified as J Mallesham of Ramsagar village in Doultabad mandal, was heavily indebted as he had continuously incurred farm losses for five years. He moved to Hyderabad to work as a watchman. But, increasing pressure from the lenders made him desperate and all efforts to get loans to pay back outstanding loans proved futile. On Saturday night, he came to Balamrai Pump-house and hanged self to a tree branch with his towel.

On coming to know about it, the police retrieved the body and handed it over to his eldest son after a post-mortem. His family members said that the debt burden has gone up to Rs 6 lakh. Mallesham was a former Naxal, who was active as an underground rebel for eight years.

14 FARMERS END LIVES: On Sunday alone, as many as 14 farmers ended their lives in Telangana state. All the farmers were unable to pay back the outstanding debts. Three more died of cardiac arrest. Three each died in Nalgonda and Nizamabad, two each in Karimnagar and Warangal and one each in Adilabad, Khammam, Rangareddy and Medak ended their lives.

ANOTHER FARMER DIES: In a latest report from Midgil in Mahabubnagar, another farmer, identified as Jangaiah, ended his life due to crop losses and mounting debt burden. His body was found in his agricultural fields.
