Spitting in Public Will Cost You In Vijayawada: Corona Precaution

Vijayawada: After reporting the first positive case of novel coronavirus here on Saturday, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has started taking more and more precautionary steps in order to avoid further spread. VMC will impose Rs 1,000 fine on persons who spit in public places.

According to reports, the civic body will also impose a fine of Rs 500 on people who urinate or defecates in public. Around 100 volunteers will be deployed across the city to impose fines.

Speaking to a daily about the move, Krishna district collector and VMC special officer A Mohammed Imtiaz, "Coronavirus can transfer from one person to others through droplets. Spitting in public places will increase the risk of infection. We want to prevent this and started imposing fines on the violators. The public can send photographs of those who are spitting in public."

So far around 415 positive cases and 8 fatalities have been reported in India, according to the Health Ministry of India.
