TADEPALLI: In a landmark decision taken by the state government to curb corruption in various government departments, the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad) has been roped in to work with the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

At a review meeting held by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office in Tadepalli on Thursday, IIM-A Public Systems Group professor Sundaravalli Narayanaswamy and AP Anti-Corruption Bureau Director General Kumar Vishwajeet exchanged the agreement in the presence of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Under the agreement, the IIM-A will complete the study by February 2020 and submit its report, a release from the Chief Minister's office said.

IIM-A will come up with guidelines to curb corruption from the village level to the top echelons of the government.

It will study the functioning of government departments, including the newly-introduced village and (Municipal) ward secretariats, income and expenditure requirements of the administration and the lacunae in the present governance system, the release said.

A study would also be conducted on proper utilization of the existing resources, increasing the quality of governance to achieve positive results. The IIM-A will suggest remedial measures to end corruption in various departments..

The Chief Minister said rooting out corruption would ultimately benefit the common people immensely. The new village and ward secretariat system was intended to ensure all benefits reach eligible beneficiaries directly, leaving no room for corruption, he pointed out.

The Chief Minister has detailed the decisions taken by the government in setting up ward and village secretariats for proper governance and asked the panel to suggest guidelines to end corruption.

The salient features of the agreement are to outline guidelines to curb corruption right from the village level to all the government departments. A detailed study of the functioning of government departments, the income and expenditure needed for the governance would be taken up. The lacunae in the present governance would be identified and corrective measures suggested.

Similarly, a study would be conducted for the proper utilization of the existing resources, increasing the quality of governance and to achieve positive results. The committee will also suggest remedial measures to end corruption in various departments.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Sundaravalli said it was a great privilege for the IIM (A) to work with Andhra Pradesh government. Chief secretary Neelan Sawhney and DGP Gautam Sawang were among the officials present on the occasion.
