TADEPALLI: After the Andhra Pradesh Government launched Operation Muskan in the State, as many 2,774 children who were missing were rescued and sent back either to their parents or state child welfare centres, on Wednesday.

After AP Director General of Police (DGP) Gautam Sawang issued orders to all district Superintendents of Police (SPs) to trace missing children across the State, 794 police search teams were formed and conducted rescue operations in coordination with ChildLine, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and District Child Protection departments and NGOs. They had conducted searches at all railway stations, bus stations, parks, hotels and rescued orphans and children who fled from their homes across the State.

The DGP had issued orders for Operation Muskan to all the district police officials, after several reports of children's disappearances (specially girls)were filed in the past few months. There were also several reports of illegal child labour practises which were openly prevalent in certain districts in the State, hence the rescue operation was initiated.

Out of the 2,774 children, rescued 2378 of them were boys and 396 of them were girls. Counselling sessions were conducted for the parents of rescued children and they were instructed to enroll their children in government schools for better future.
