GUNTUR: Fulfilling yet another election promise, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has distributed cheques to the duped customers and agents of AgriGold who had invested up to Rs 10,000 and assured all help to the victims besides asking those persons who are left out can register their names to get the benefit.

Speaking at a function organized here on Thursday to distribute the cheques to AgriGold victims, the Chief Minister said, though it was a matter involving a private company and the issue being in court, the government has taken the permission of the court to disburse an amount of Rs 264 cores to 3.70 lakh victims. If anyone is left out, they can register their names with the Revenue Department District Legal Services Authority for one more month to get the benefit.

The present amount is being given to the victims who have deposited Rs 10,000 and in the next phase, we will take permission from the court to provide the benefit to those who had deposited up to Rs 20,000.

‘I have given a word to the victims who have approached me during my 3,648 km padayatra and told me as to how they were cheated and the previous government tried to manipulate the situation at the cost of poor investors and agents, who had a tough time.

At that time, I was in the Opposition and took up your cause and fought with the Government. Today I am before you to fulfill the assurance, I have given then. On May 30, we came to power, in June we discussed the matter in the cabinet and on July 12 we have allocated funds in the budget.

We are just five months old and had provided jobs to over 4 lakh people of which 1.30 jobs are of permanent nature in the Village Secretariats, given Rs 10,000 financial assistance to auto and cab owner-cum-drivers under YSR Vahana Mitra.

During the five months of our governance, we have brought out a legislation fixing 75% quota in jobs to youth in industries and have increased the old age pension amount. The funds previous government allotted with Rs 500 crore while we have earmarked Rs 1,300 crore which is three times that of the previous government.

During these five months, we have started Kanti Velugu programme in which 65 lakh students had undergone eye tests and 4.5 lakh students were identified for eye surgery or were provided with spectacles.

To provide corruption-free governance, we have brought in a legislation setting up of Judicial Preview Commission that will scrutinize the tenders in a very transparent manner. Other states are emulating our module. We have also brought in reverse tendering and the process which has saved Rs 830 crores, in Velugonda project Rs 50 cores was saved and in all the exchequer benefited Rs 1,000 cores during the past five months.

In the coming days, we will do more which will provide good governance.

Party leaders and state ministers Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, Pushpa Srivani, Sucharita, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Ranganatha Raju were among those who attended the function.
