Srisailam Reservoir Opens Crest Gates Again

Kurnool: With heavy inflows reaching from Jurala and Sunkesula projects in the upper reaches of the Krishna basin, the water levels in the Srisailam reservoir has greatly increased. After an inflow of 4.48 lakh cusecs of water, Srisailam dam authorities have lifted seven gates on Wednesday, October 23.

On Tuesday, October 22, dam authorities lifted four gates and released 1.10 lakh cusecs water downstream into the sea.

The dam, which has the capacity to store water up to 885 feet, has reached a danger mark level of 883.80 feet. Following this, 68,675 cusecs of water was released to downstream by generating electricity.

Following heavy inflows, the gates of the Srisailam dam were first lifted on August 9 this year. The crest gates were also opened on September 10, 20 and 26 and October 9 to release floodwater downstream.

Andhra Pradesh is receiving all-time record rain this season, and the Srisailam crest gates have opened seven times up until now. The Srisailam Reservoir have recorded the highest water level of 1,236 TMCs this season.
