Godavari Floods 2019:AP Government Sanctions 10 Crore Special Relief To Those Who Lost Houses

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh State Government announced an assistance of Rs 5,000 each to those who lost their houses in the recent Godavari floods, on Wednesday.

The State Revenue department announced this as part of the special relief measures to the victims whose houses were inundated or marooned in floodwaters, for more than a week during the floods.

For this an amount of Rupees 10, 09,20,000 were released where Rs 7,21,75,000 was allocated to the district of East Godavari and Rs 2,87,45,000 to the district of West Godavari.

The Government on Wednesday issued GO MS No 12 to ratify this decision and the District Collectors were informed about the same. Households whose properties were damaged would get Rs 5,000 as special assistance to help them. The amount would be debited to the individuals through the direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system after identifying the beneficiaries ,as per the GO orders.

Hundreds of villages in East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh were once again subjected to floods as river Godavari remained in spate last week.

Due to heavy rains in Maharashtra, the main catchment area of Godavari, have increased the water flow in the river with the level inching closer to the danger mark at the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in Dowaleswaram. The State Disaster Management Authority said in a release on Saturday night that 8,11,353 cusecs of water flowed into the SAC Barrage and the same was being discharged into the Bay of Bengal. Over 19 submergence villages under the multipurpose Polavaram remained marooned and the road network cut off as the flood level touched 27.65 meters at the project site on Sunday evening. Meanwhile, river Krishna also has been receiving steady flood, with inflow at Srisailam reservoir touching 2.26 lakh cusecs. About one lakh cusecs of water were being discharged from here.
