Amaravati /Srikakulam: Shortly after the review meeting held with the officials from Drinking Water Supply Corporation (APDWSC) on Friday, Andhra Pradesh Government has given the go-ahead to establish a 200-bed super-speciality hospital in Palasa at Srikakulam.

The hospital will also have a Kidney Research Centre and Dialysis Unit attached to it, as directed in the Order issued by the Health,Medical and Family Welfare department on Tuesday.

The establishment of the hospital comes at a time where the people of the neighbouring Uddanam Mandal have been suffering from chronic kidney diseases (CKD) for the past two decades and were in a dire need of a hospital close by for treatment.

Most of the patients were going to the district hospitals in Srikakulam or Visakhapatnam for treatment. Despite repeated pleas made to the previous TDP government to have a hospital built close by, never materialised. Patients were forced to shell out between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 for undergoing dialysis every month.

Promise made during Padayatra fulfilled

It may be recollected that during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's mass outreach program, Praja Sankalpa Yatra which came to an end in Uddanam in January this year , he reiterated his promise to the people to supply fresh water from irrigation projects, to protect the locals from kidney-related ailments and also establish a 200-bed hospital in Palasa.

True to his promise Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed officials to establish the hospital which will be built at a cost of Rs 50 crore.
