Amaravati: To tackle the water crisis in the State of Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed officials related to the water department to implement the Water Grid scheme in three phases.

In a review meeting held with the officials from AP Drinking Water Supply Corporation (APDWSC) on Friday, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that officials should ensure clean drinking water be supplied to people in the State and speed up the works related to it.

He said that the Uddanam Water project should cover the entire district of Srikakulam. Under the Water Grid scheme, the first phase should be implemented in Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Prakasam, districts. In the second phase, Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam, Rayalaseema areas should be covered, In the third phase Krishna, Guntur and Nellore districts should covered for supplying drinking water, he directed.

The Chief Minister had ideated that water should be purified from the place where the water is sourced and then supplied to people. For the Uddanam people affected with kidney ailments ,he said that drinking water should be supplied to their homes directly from the treatment plants.

Uddanam people in Srikakulam district have been haunted by chronic kidney diseases (CKD) for the past two decades and were promised drinking water by the previous government, but were to take off. He also directed officials to conduct a comprehensive study and formulate a plan for this purpose.

YS Jagan also suggested that taking into account the cleanliness of drinking water storage lakes and summer storage tanks, necessary steps should be taken by officials, to prevent any kind of pollution and contamination after they have been filled.

Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, District Collectors of both the Godavari districts, and officials from the APDWSC were present in the meeting held in Tadepalli.
