Improve Social Welfare Hostels: YS Jagan

Amaravati: "Officials should take initiatives to improve the facilities in residential schools and social welfare hostels in the state, just as one would take care of his/her child's welfare," suggested Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He said this while speaking to the officials of the Tribal Welfare, Social Welfare, and Minority departments at a review meeting held in Tadepalli on Thursday.

Special emphasis should be on quality while running the Gurukul schools and hostels, he said. The government to ensure that these facilities reach the children formulated a nine-point formula. This plan would be implemented in three phases and officials should inspect facilities periodically and ensure that the welfare schemes reach them.

Talking about the construction of new hostels, the Chief Minister instructed officials to build hostels as per requirements and toilets where needed. By next year, officials should be ready with books and uniforms for distribution. There was an urgent need to fill 927 vacancies for the posts of cooks and watchmen across the state. SC STs and Minorities should be given opportunity while filling the nominated posts, he said.

Welfare schemes should be delivered to everyone beyond the realms of politics and parties, he said while laying emphasis on transparency in governance.

YS Jagan also stated that by next year, women above the age of 45 years belonging to SC,ST , BC Minority groups would be given a sum of Rs 1,870 yearly to support them.

Construction of Saluru Tribal University, Paderu Tribal Medical College, Tribal Engineering College in Kuruppam , Super Speciality hospitals in seven ITDA areas ( Araku, Palakonda,Paravathipuram,Rampachodavaram,Chinthuru, KR Puram, Dornala) would be established soon, he said.

Talking about tribal welfare, YS Jagan said that officials should lay focus on distribution of forest land pattas for tribals and action should be taken to solve any kind of issues, he directed.

Separate commissions should be created for SCs and ST welfare and a Bill to this effect would be passed in the Assembly in next Assembly session, YS Jagan declared.

Deputy Chief Ministers Puspa Srivani, Amjad Bhasha, Social Welfare Minister Viswaroop, and officials of various welfare departments were present in the review meeting.
