Red Alert In Tirumala, Neighbouring Places Following Terror Tip-off

Chittoor: Following information that terrorists could have infiltrated the southern states through Sri Lanka, a red alert has been sounded in Chittoor district which is home to some of the busiest pilgrim centres including Tirumala Tirupati and Srikalahasti. The red alert followed a tip off by central intelligence agencies that some terrorists could reach Andhra Pradesh from Sri Lanka by the sea route. Security has been beefed up in Tirupati, Tirumala, Srikalahasthi, Kanipakam and other places and have sounded a red alert. Tirupati urban SP KKN Anburajan and Chittoor SP Appalanaidu have issued instructions to police officials to keep a close eye on crowded places. Surveillance has been stepped up in busy centres, bus stands, railway stations, malls, industries, hospitals and important shrines.

Public have been advised to contact local police immediately on 100, 8099999977 if they spot any suspicious objects or individuals. Passports of passengers reaching by Renigunta airport are being verified along with other security measures which have been put in place. Police have stated that they are conducting stop and search operations and checking every vehicle entering the city. They are also being vigilant about individuals and are questioning suspicious persons. SP Anburajan stated that in addition to Tirumala and Tirupati, Tiruchanur, Srikalahasthi, Srinivasa Mangapuram and steps to the hill shrine among other places are under surveillance by the police to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
