Vijayawada: Chairperson of Andhra Pradesh Women's Commission Vasireddy Padma said that the statutory body will address all issues concerned to women. She pointed out that under the TDP era crimes against women had gone up and under the YSRCP government safety and security of women would be accorded utmost priority. She said that it was important for members of the public, especially women to come forward and report instances before crimes are committed not after they are done. Vasireddy Padma pointed out that under Chandrababu, Andhra Pradesh had become the number one state in crimes against women. This phenomenon required to be studied closely, she said. It was necessary to conduct case studies in villages and districts, she said.

The Chairperson of Women's Commission said that it was the aim of the body to help women stand on their own feet independently. Referring to DWCRA loans and repayment of such loans, Vasireddy Padma said that the Commission was trying to find ways to extricate women from the debts they are mired in. The objective was to make women self-reliant, she added. The chairperson of the commission said that the body aimed for development of women in all sectors. Its objective was to bring about a significant transformation in society. To achieve this, the attitude of society towards women needs to change, she said. Vasireddy Padma observed that social media channels are being used to abuse women.

Younger generations need to be educated and gender equality should be stressed. Lessons should be imparted to this end, she said.

Vasireddy Padma who was appointed as Andhra Pradesh Women's Commission Chairperson on August 8th, has been given Cabinet status by the Government. The State Government issued official orders to this effect on Wednesday. She will be sworn in at the CSR Function Hall in Tadepally on the 26th of this month.
