Security Forces, Maoists Exchange Fire In Vizag Agency, No Casualties

Visakhapatnam: A fire exchange between security forces and Maoists took place near Mandapalle village, a village bordering Koyyuru and GK Veedhi, in Visakhapatnam Agency on Monday.

The security forces comprised of Special Police Party of the Visakhapatnam district and the CRPF. A leading daily said that about 15-20 cadres from the East Division of the Maoists were a part of the exchange.

As police took part in the combing operations, police chanced upon the Maoists and both parties started shooting. However, no casualties have been reported.

Polcie recovered some Maoist literature, a couple of kit bags, about 10 tiffin carriers, wire bundles and two radios, while adding that the presence of radio sets pointed out they were trying to intercept the communication of the security personnel.

In another incident, a Maoist was killed in an encounter with the police in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district of Telangana. The encounter took place during intensified search operations by Telangana police in view of the ongoing martyrs' week being observed by the CPI-M (Maoist).

Police said the encounter broke out around 6 am when a police team was carrying out combing operations in a forest area. The exchange of fire occurred in Rollagadda Devallagudem forest area in the district, bordering Chhattisgarh, police said. A gun battle ensued as a group of Maoists opened fire at the police team during the operation.

A Maoist was killed in the firing while others fled into the forest. The body of the slain rebel and a self-loading rifle were recovered from the spot.
