Chittoor: The director of Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), Dr. Ravi Kumar, finally submitted his resignation after several controversies swirled around the functioning of the premier institute during the TDP era. The director of SVIMS handed over his letter of resignation to the Principal Secretary of health, Dr. Jawahar Reddy. It was widely said that in the Chandrababu regime, Dr. Ravi Kumar was turned into a rubber stamp and the administration of SVIMS slipped into the hands of relatives of the TDP chief. There is widespread criticism that with his inaction, Dr. Ravi Kumar could not stop the loss caused to the state treasury by henchmen of the TDP chief and other party leaders. The director came under a lot of flak for corruption under the TDP regime.

There were several controversies in the TDP era, according to sources. The director could not stand up to the pressure exerted on him by relatives of Chandrababu Naidu, it is said.

All matters relating to outsourcing, appointment of doctors and technicians, promotions and purchases, down to running the medical shop, were controlled by a set of people close to the TDP leadership, resulting in huge scams, it is said.
