Distribution Of Housing Plots Will Begin From Ugadi: YS Jagan

Amaravati: The State government concluded that about 26.75 lakh families or households are in the need of and waiting for residential plots. Of which authorities have identified plots for nine lakh beneficiaries so far and the land should be procured for 15.75 lakh households.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held deliberations with Housing department officials here on Wednesday to take stock of the efforts being made towards providing housing to the eligible by Ugadi. He instructed officials concerned to ensure that every beneficiary was covered under the scheme, carry out a survey to identify existing government land and to rule out corruption at any level.

The officials informed the Chief Minister that as many as 14.06 lakh eligible in rural areas and 12.69 lakh in urban areas were waiting for housing plots in the State. So far, 23, 448 acres were identified. Of which, 20,800 acres were in urban areas and 2, 580 acres in rural areas. This land would take care of only nine lakh beneficiaries. Land should be procured for another about 15 lakh households in need of the residential plots.

In order to make more land available to cover remainder of beneficiaries, the Chief Minister ordered officials concerned to carry out a survey of land across the land. To this, the authorities put forward proposals to the tune of Rs 1,688 crore for surveying. The CM ordered officials to use best of the technology for the survey to ensure that it is completed in two years' time with minimum errors.
