Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy

Amaravati: Terming the Andhra Pradesh Education Regulatory and Monitoring Bill as "revolutionary" and which has potential to make education as a right, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the legislation would help in taking forward quality education to poor and downtrodden families.

YS Jagan spoke at length in the Assembly on Monday before tabling the said Bill for discussion before enacting it as a law. Once passed, the State government would constitute an expert committee on education to recommend various changes to the existing education system in the State to make it more affordable, inclusive, and effective. The committee will have 11 members and will be headed by a retired High Court judge.

Slamming the TDP regime, YS Jagan said the previous government had completely watered down the education system in the State by giving free run to private players to make profitable business out of quality education. As a result, the mandatory Right to Education Act was not enforced in any school, bills were not paid for Mid Day Meal Scheme and did not provide textbooks and uniform to school children, he lashed out at the TDP.

Reiterating that education would remain his pet project in his governance, he observed that education was the only weapon and an asset that helped poor to come out of poverty.
