Hyderabad: As monsoon has turned active on the west coast, the reservoirs on Krishna river are almost filling up. Irrigation Department data has shown that the first sizeable reservoir on the Krishna, Almatti, is full.

Inflow in the reservoir has reached 1.14 lakh cusecs on July 14.

However, thereafter, the inflow had fallen again. A leading daily reported, on July 24, inflows into the reservoir fell to 7,662 cusecs, but increased to 22,593 cusecs on Saturday with rains in the west coast.

Engineers opine that there are chances that the reservoirs could be filled with the ongoing rains and the dam authorities could be forced to release the water.

The full capacity of the dam is 129.72 tmcft, and there is 123.5 tmcft water in the reservoir already.

On the other hand, the smaller Narayanapur reservoir, which is immediately downstream Almatti, has 30.69 tmcft water in it, while its capacity is 37.64 tmcft.

However, water positions in the two reservoirs in Andhra Pradesh on Krishna river - Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar continue to be dismal.

While the full capacity of all the reservoirs is 982.35 tmcft, there is currently only 208.35 tmcft water till July 28, irrigation department statistics showed.
