YS Jagan Pays Homage To Kargil Martyrs On Vijay Diwas

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday paid rich tributes to the Kargil war heroes.

He tweeted, "Homage and gratitude to the martyrs of Kargil war who defended the nation and led us to victory. This country will always remember the sacrifice, courage and valor of our brave soldiers."

Every Year July 26 is observed as 'Kargil Vijaya Diwas' to commemorate the success of Operation Vijay and the victory of the Indian Army against infiltrating Pakistani troops in the Kargil War of 1999.

'Kargil Vijay Diwas' is celebrated with heavy enthusiasm by military personnel at Dras-Kargil sector in Jammu and Kashmir and at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate in New Delhi. The war memorial in Drass town in Kargil district has around 500 tombstones with the name of slain soldiers inscribed in them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the day should be remembered for the "courage, bravery and dedication" shown by the soldiers who took part in Operation Vijay, while President Ram Nath Kovind hailed the "grit and valour of those who defended India" during the operation.

Army chief General Bipin Rawat paid tribute to the martyrs at Kargil War Memorial in Dras. Meanwhile, fly past by the fighter aircraft that took part in the Kargil war, has also been called off due to bad weather at Drass.
