One Trapped, Two Severely Injured As A Building Collapses In Tirupati

Tirupati:  An under-construction pump house came crashing down in Tirupati town leaving two severely injured and four others escape with minor injuries. A worker is believed to have been trapped under the rubble, and efforts are being made to bring him out.

According to police, the structure is located near the local municipal park. The accident took place when work for laying roof for the second floor of the pump house was underway. The first floor was already complete by then. Some workers jumped off the building in a bid to save themselves.

Although the actual reason for the collapse is yet to be ascertained, preliminary reports suggest the use of substandard construction material and failure to adhere to safe building norms by the contractors concerned. The injured have been rushed to Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia Government General Hospital. The worker who is trapped under ruin is identified as a scaffolding worker hailing from Kolkata.
