Stringent Measures In AP New Sand Policy Aim To Root Out Corruption

Amaravati: In line with its decision to roll out a new Sand Policy, the State government will allow the sale of sand only through the AP Mineral Development Corporation at reduced prices, compared to current market rates. The new policy will come into effect from September 5.

Reviewing the existing Sand Policy, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed officials to ensure that the new policy was corrupt-free and transparent to increase government revenue without damaging the environment.

The AP Mineral Development Corporation will design a mobile application and web portal to track the availability and sale of sand for the benefit of customers. Up until the new policy comes into existence, the District Collectors have been entrusted with task of overseeing the sale of sand in their respective districts. In the next two months, the APMDC will identify new sand reaches and work out new prices. The Transport department will also be brought into the system for the fast delivery of sand.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to set up additional stockyards both near the sand reaches and also in cities. Receipts would be generated when sand is transported from reach to stockyard and from stockyard to the end customer. CCTV cameras would be installed both at sand reaches and stockyards. Similarly, weight bridges would be set up both at sand reaches and stockyards and the stock is properly weighed at both points to ensure that there are no irregularities, he added.

Further, he also ordered officials to ensure that vehicles transporting sand to have GPS in order to rein in on mafia and any discrepancies. There would be no scope for illegal sand mining and distribution, he underscored.
