Tirupati: Condemning the “honour killing” in Chittoor district, Deputy Chief Minister Narayanaswamy said stern action would be initiated against the culprits.

Speaking to press persons here on Saturday, he expressed sadness and shock over the incident. He said love is a pure feeling beyond the narrow differences such as religion and caste.

"It is extremely honour on the part of the family to kill their own daughter due to her intercaste marriage," he added.

The shocking incident of caste killing came to light on Saturday from Palamaneru mandal in Chittoor district when a girl was killed by her family members as they were upset over her decision.

The deceased Hemavathi married Keshavulu a Dalit from the same village about two years ago. They moved out of the village to Bangalore fearing backlash from her parents. It was only recently Hemavathi came to the village to deliver her first baby at the local hospital. With the information reaching Hemavathi's family, they plotted to murder her.

On Friday, when she was returning from the hospital, her parents, sister and other male members waylaid her and forcibly drove away on a bike with her. Later, was strangled and her body dumped in a well.

Villagers, who came to know of the horrific incident, attacked the house of her father Bhaskar Naidu, burnt a bike and destroyed a few articles. Police registered a case under many sections and are investigating the matter.
