Nellore: Irrigation Minister Anil Kumar Yadav assured the people of Nellore that Penna barrage works would be completed by upcoming April to quench the thirst of the local town.
The Minister inspected the works on Thursday and held consultations with the irrigation officials. The works, which began in 2007, are still yet to come to fruition to benefit the people of Nellore.
Yadav blamed the TDP for the inordinate delay in completing the project. He recalled that former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had released Rs 127 crore in 2007 after kick starting the works. However, 12 years had gone by but the works were yet to be completed, he added.
"Every time former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu came to Nellore, he promised to finish the works but had done nothing," he slammed the TDP.
While promising to complete the works by next April, Yadav said the particular project has the capability of meeting the drinking and irrigation water needs of farmers and citizens of Nellore at large. He said he would ensure that there would be no scope for corruption in the upcoming works.
