Eluru: A newly-married couple committed suicide on Saturday by consuming pesticide at Jangareddygudem in West Godavari district.

The deceased were identified as N Sekhar (21) and T Posamma (19). According to the reports, the parents of the couple did not approve of their relationship.

Posamma’s parents even lodged a complaint against Sekhar with the police and confined her to the house for a long time. However, a few days ago, the couple met secretly and decided to get married.

They got married in a temple and shared the pictures with their friends. Upon learning about their marriage, the parents of the couple began searching for them. The couple, meanwhile, checked into a hotel. As their parents opposed the marriage as well, they committed suicide by consuming pesticide.

Since the couple didn't come out of their hotel room, the staff peeped through the window to find them unconscious.

Immediately, they broke open the doors and shifted them to the Jangareddygudem Government Hospital. While Sekhar was declared brought dead, Posamma succumbed to death while undergoing treatment. It is learned that Sekhar, in the past, has been charged in connection with a missing case that was registered at Koyalagudem police station.

The police stated that the couple committed suicide due to a lack of consent in the marriage. A postmortem was conducted on the bodies and handed over to relatives.
