Pakala: Another incident of dowry harassment has come to light in Chittoor district. A young woman who confronted her husband for hiding his impotence has been subjected to severe harassment. The victim, B Dipika, the daughter of Rajendra Naidu (Late) and Usharani, hailed from Damalacheruvu Panchayat Moravapalle in Pakala Mandal of Chittoor District.

Dipika got married to MG Shyam Prasad, a software engineer and a resident of Ramnagar Colony in Chittoor. The couple tied the knot in a grand ceremony at Tirumala on August 13, 2017. As a dowry, Shyam Prasad was given 25 grams of gold jewelery in addition to Rs 2 lakh in cash. With both Shyam Prasad and Dipika working in Bengaluru, they settled down in the city.

However, within a matter of few days, Dipika discovered that her husband was impotent and suspected that he was taking some kind of treatment. Upon confronting her husband and in-laws, they admitted to Shyam Prasad being impotent. However, her in-laws requested her not to reveal this information to anyone as to would cost their reputation. Upset on the issue, Dipika revealed the same to her mother. Learning that Dipika had revealed the news to her family, the in-laws started harassing her for an extra Rs 1 lakh as dowry. Shyam Prasad even resorted to physical abuse threatening Dipika that he would get married again.

Unable to deal with the harassment, Dipika approached the police and filed a case against her in-laws. In her complaint, the victim mentioned that the Rs 3 lakh which was given to her in-laws as dowry should be returned back to her and also she sought for severe punishment against her husband and in-laws. The police have arrested the accused and chargesheets have also been filed against them. The police are investigating further.
