Elephants Maul Srikakulam Tribal Woman To Death

Srikakulam: A woman was killed while another was critically injured when a herd of elephants created panic in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

The herd of elephants entered farming fields in Eetamanuguda village, where it attacked a 62-year-old woman named Savara Gayyaramma . She was killed on the spot. The tribals said that the elephant lifted the body of Gayaramma and left it under a huge tree near the village borders and left. Her son Eswar said that the elephant made loud noises while coming downhill and is reported to have destroyed toilets built for the tribals.

The herd then moved on to Manda village, where it attacked a woman named Bodemma. She was severely injured and is currently admitted to RIMS Hospital in Srikakulam town. While doctors are providing treatment, Bodemma is said to be in critical condition.

The forest officials say that in the particular herd that is roaming in the area , one of the elephants got electrocuted and is said to be acting in a strange manner. It is said to be moving separately from the herd and acting strangely. It is reported that more than 13 people have been killed by these elephants in the ITDA area since 2007.
