Hyderabad: Just like the reel-story in Sonam Kapoor's film Dolly ki Doli, a real-life lady fraudster was arrested by the Cyber Crime Police, Cyberabad for allegedly cheating foreign bridegrooms.

As per the police press release, the accused Koram Archana collected huge amounts of money by trapping NRI grooms through matrimonial websites in the guise of marrying them. The fraud came to light when a software engineer and his parents discovered that she had duped them last month.

The complainants were in search of a Telugu bride in a popular matrimonial site and when they found a profile with name of Pushtayi from Chennai, they contacted her. The accused managed to hood wink them, asked them to formalise the wedding and demanded that they give her a platinum ring for the engagement.

Even before meeting her they deposited Rs 1,50,000 in her account. Once the money was deposited, she switched off her phone and realising they were cheated, they immediately filed a complaint with Cyber Crime Police, Cyberabad.

She was nabbed by the Cyberbad sleuths at Begumpet in Hyderabad where the police recovered 10 Bank Pass Books ,16 Cheque Books ,34 ATM Cards ,2 PAN Cards ,7 Mobile Phones from her.

Modus Operandi

The accused, an MBA Graduate from SV University was a native of Inamadugu Centre in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. She was married to Koram Durga Praveen of Ranganayakulupeta in Nellore in 2016, who was working as lecturer.

In greed for more money, she started cheating people with fake profiles and was earlier arrested for cheating the men in the guise of marrying them by Cyber Crime Police Station, Cyberabad, Rachakonda and Hyderabad. She was in Chenchalguda jail for more than 5 months and released on bail in the month of December 2018, but continued to cheat people.

Archana used several fake names like Jutuoori Vara Prasad Archana , Jutuoori Indira Priyadarshini to cheat men and the latest one being Pushtayi. She started posting fake profiles with pictures of different girls downloaded from the internet. She would specifically target NRI men in these matrimonial sites who were looking for foreign alliances only.

Once they would get in touch with her, Archana who was a smooth talker would speak to them and make them believe that she came to India on a short visit from the US. When the parents of the bridegroom showed interest to meet her, she would chat and text with them on the phone and convince them. When they evince interest in her and decide to solemnise the relationship she would ask money from either the parents or from the bridegroom for the engagement, which they would deposit in her bank account. Once she received the money, she would stop responding to their phone calls.
