Finally, AP Cops Get Weekly Offs

Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's assurance to accord weekly off to the police personnel has become effective in the state. The police personnel including reserve police and home guards, working across 13 districts in the State are all set to get weekly off on a rotational basis. DGP D Gautam Sawang has formed a committee in this regard and the week-off system is expected to come into force in the police department in two weeks.

The Chief Minister on Wednesday reviewed the committee comprising 22 senior police officials headed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Ravishankar Ayyanar.

The committee will study the utility of the proposal based on the working and strength of police in all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, following which will submit a report in a week.

The proposal for the week-off policy is being formulated with an approach that the duties and responsibilities of police officers are unaffected. The working hours of police officials in commissionerates, villages, mandal level police stations, Naxalite-prone areas, mandatory staff in police stations, court duties, clerical staff, bandobust, petition inquiry officers, and other duties will be considered for the proposal.

The six-day week (weekly off) to policemen and officers is one of the promises made by YS Jagan during the recent elections. On an experimental basis, the policy is being implemented in Prakasam and Kadapa districts.

The Personnel Department, Guntur IGs, Eluru Range DIG, Guntur Rural, Krishna District SP, Vijayawada Law Officer DSP, SIB SP, APSP Battalions DIG, Intelligence Security Wing OSD, APSP 6th Battalion Commandant, Assistant Commandant, Krishna District CCS DSP, Command Control DSP, Guntur Urban AR DSP, Guntur Urban, Vijayawada City CIs, Guntur Rural, Guntur Urban SIs, Srikakulam, Prakasam, APSP Battalion core teams are members of the committee.
