Youngsters Chase TSRTC Bus, Assault Driver For Honking In Vijayawada

Vijayawada: A group of youngsters carrying iron rods chased down a Telangana State Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus and attacked the driver before snatching Rs 25,000 from the conductor. The incident took place at around 2 am near Gollapudi area on Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway on Saturday night.

Belonging to Narketpalli depot in Telangana, the bus was heading to Hyderabad from Vijayawada with 50 passengers on board.

According to the police, the youngsters were riding their motorcycles through the Vijayawada bypass road when the TSRTC bus driver reportedly blew the horn as the bikers stopped on the road.

They were upset after the driver, Chilakapalli Janaiah (42) drove past them. The youngsters then sped past the bus and blocked the way. Further, they vandalized the vehicle, breaking its windshield, attacked the bus driver and snatched Rs 25,000 from the conductor. Two passengers who tried to intervene also were attacked and suffered minor injuries.

The passengers alerted the police, who arrested six youths within a couple of hours for creating a nuisance and assaulting the driver. The bus driver sustained severe injuries on his head and was administered first aid.

The police stated that around 20 men were gathered for a religious event were causing major inconvenience to other commuters on the road by driving at Rama Nagar Junction.

The group chased the TSRTC bus after the driver honked at them and managed to block the way of the vehicle near Ayappa Swamy temple. The entire incident was recorded by the passengers and the videos helped the police identify the accused. Six youngsters have been taken into police custody and their vehicles have been seized.

Based on the complaint lodged by the bus driver, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
