Amaravati: The police officials who are investigating into the recent robbery at senior IAS officer Shashi Bhushan Kumar’s house in Amaravathi are stumbling upon baffling new twists in the case. There has been a stark difference, police say, between the figures of stolen cash and gold mentioned by Shashi Bhushan in his complaint and that of the booty they recovered. Police are yet to ascertain why the complainant has to present a completely wrong picture to them. As a result, police are investigating to locate if there is an underlying conspiracy to the entire episode.

The Amaravathi police reveal that the crime was committed by one Biswas who had been serving as a watchman at AP Water Resources secretary Shashi Bhushan Kumar’s residence in Suryaraopeta in Amaravathi. Upon investigating, police say that Biswas fled away with Rs 4 crore and a huge amount of gold. However, complainant Bhushan in his complaint to police had said only Rs 1.5 lakh cash and Rs 6.5 lakh worth gold were stolen from his house. The family members on the other hand, during the course of investigation, had said Rs 84 lakh in cash and Rs 24 lakh worth gold were stolen from their residence.

The police have no option but to smell a rat with family members and Shashi Kumar Bhushan himself throwing up different figures which in no way correspond to what police have recovered.

With the media reports circulating that police had seized ‘Rs 4 crore’ stolen from Shashi Bhushan Kumar’s residence, senior officials in the State administration are unable to fathom how an IAS officer could make so much of wealth.

Besides, it is also being heard in the State Secretariat that how Bhushan is considered as a trusted lieutenant and shares a close relationship with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. In fact, it is under Bhushan’s nose, as the secretary of the Water Resources Department, the costs pertaining to Polavaram Project are hugely escalated. Even the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG) also found severe irregularities in terms of payments to the contractors involved in the Polavaram Project.
