Cyclone Fani Impact: Rs 58.61 Cr Damage In AP

Amaravati: Chief Secretary LV Subramanyam on Saturday stated that Andhra Pradesh suffered a loss of Rs 57.61 crore in the devastation occurred due to Cyclone Fani.

In a video conference held on Saturday, Union Cabinet Secretary Pradip Kumar Sinha from New Delhi reviewed the cyclone devastation with the Chief Secretaries of AP, Odisha and West Bengal.

Mr Subramanyam told the Union Cabinet Secretary that as per the preliminary reports, AP suffered a loss of Rs 57.61 crore in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts.

In this regard, he explained the loss and damage occurred in the state. The highest rainfall of 19.7 cm was recorded in Icchapuram mandal of Srikakulam district. In the four zones of the same district, 2 lakh 74 thousand people were affected. 304 houses were damaged, 168 of them were partially damaged, the Chief Secretary told Mr Sinha. 15,460 people in Srikakulam district have been resettled to 139 rehabilitation centers and 2,000 in Vizianagaram district to 15 rehabilitation centers. He said that 348 medical camps were set up for victims.

Due to the Cyclone, 958 hectares of crops including paddy, cotton, and sunflower were damaged in the two districts. About 10,000 coconut trees have been damaged and 1,991 farmers suffered losses. LV Subrahmanyam told the Union Cabinet Secretary that banana plantations in Vizianagaram district were damaged in 229 acres. Similarly, Rs 21.57 crore for Roads and Buildings, Rs 20.05 crore for Panchayati Raj Roads, Rs 9,75 crore for Power Department, Rs 4.09 crore for Horticulture Department, Rs 1.82 crore for Municipal Administration, Rs 42.68 lakh for Rural Water Resources, Rs 85.35 lakh for housing construction and Rs 3.94 lakh for animal husbandry department. He also said that the basic loss for various sectors including handloom textiles are also being estimated.

In the video conference, the CS said that the power supply in 733 villages in 14 Mandals of Srikakulam district has been disrupted due to the damaged electricity poles. So far, all zonal centers have already been renewed power supply. In another 74 villages, the work is in progress. Along with damaged pillars, lakhs of non-agricultural services have been renewed. Rural water supply, municipal administration, and R & B departments are working relentlessly. Speaking at the meeting, Sinha asked the officials to complete the restoration works at the earliest based on the estimation of losses.
