Alert Issued For Cyclone Fani: AP Officials Set Precautionary Measures

Vijayawada: Krishna district Collector Md Imtiaz has stated that the district administration should be well-prepared to face the fiery cyclonic storm, FANI. On Friday, he held an emergency meeting with the officials of all the branches of the district in his camp office in regard to the precautionary measures to be taken in view of the upcoming storm. At the meeting, the Collector said that a severe low-pressure area has concentrated into a depression in the south-eastern part of the Bay of Bengal.

As per the IMD forecast, it is likely to intensify further during the next 24 hours and a cyclonic storm during the subsequent 12 hours. The cyclonic storm lays centered about 1610 km Southeast of Machilipatnam. In the next 72 hours, the depression is set to reach the North Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coast.

The weather department has estimated that this may affect the district on 28th, 29th, and 30th of this month. With this effect, winds are expected to be 40 to 50 km per hour.

In this backdrop, the collector has directed the authorities urged the officials to remain alert in 16 storm-affected zones including with Machilipatnam, Nagayalanka, Koduru, Kruthivennu, Bantumilli, Avanigadda, and Mopidevi. The control room has been set up in Machilipatnam district to know the situation from time to time. Special officers have also been appointed.

Via 137 community radio sets, the fisheries officers will be informing the fishermen from time to time across the district in the storm-affected areas.

The collector instructed that all revenue divisional, Tahasildar offices be ready with wireless sets and home radios. He also ordered the power department officials to be ready with generators at government-run and safe water supply centers along with diesel generators in case the power is disrupted. The collector suggested that the Municipal Authority and Panchayat authorities should fill the overhead tanks with drinking water.
