2 Lakh Devotees To Take Holy Dip In Godavari Ghats Rajahmundry On Shivaratri

Rajahmundry: Rajahmundry municipal authorities are all set for the festival of Mahasivaratri. Almost 2,00,000 devotees are expected to take a sacred dip in the river Godavari and perform rituals on the eve of Mahasivaratri. City municipal commissioner Sumit Kumar Gandhi reviewed the arrangements made by the civic authorities here on Saturday.

Sumit has directed officials to ensure proper sanitation at all bathing ghats namely Kotilingala, New Pushkar, Markendeya, Saraswathi and Gautami, along with others located across the city. Commissioner has ordered the staff to chlorinate the ends of the ghats in order to avoid the river from getting polluted.

He added that authorities were coming up with health centres at the ghats, equipped with medical officers and health staff.

Municipal commissioner opined that the usage of plastic material has been banned and distributing prasadam in plastic containers is not allowed.

Sumit Kumar ordered the authorities to arrange separate dress changing rooms for women, continuous supply of drinking water, ample lighting, public toilets and other infrastructure for the devotees. Sumit Kumar has commissioned for boats near the bathing ghats, which can be used in the case of an emergency.
