Half completed Kanaka Durga flyover which has been under construction for more than 4 years

For those who travel to Vijayawada regularly, the first road block that they hit before even entering the city is the half completed Kanaka Durga flyover which has been under construction for more than 4 years now.

Vijayawada which is like the gateway to enter the capital city of Amaravati will be benefitted greatly by this flyover. The traffic inflow into the city has tripled over the years and received huge influx of travellers and devotees who come to visit the famous Kanaka Durga temple on top of the Indrakeeladri hill.

The flyover is 2.3 Kms long and starts at Kummaripalem, the entry point to Vijayawada and passes over Temple road and Canal road besides the Prakasam barrage and ends at the Rajiv Gandhi Municipal Park. However, the flyover construction has missed several deadlines in the past.

The denizens of Vijayawada face many problems because of the delay in completion of the flyover.

First, there is heavy traffic during peak hours and vehicles get stuck near the temple curve starting at the temple entry point. This is because of the local and outside vehicles coming in, not to mention the innumerable travel buses and Lorries.

The citizens are clueless about when the flyover would be completed and some are of the opinion that the flyover would be completed only after the elections are over and if there is change in the government.

There are varied reports as to when the flyover would be finished. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had set March 2018 as the deadline, recently Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani said that the flyover would be inaugurated in the coming two months.

The foundation stone was laid in 2015 at an estimated cost of Rs 447 crores, but it still has to be seen the light of the day. So even before reaching Amaravati one has to wait at the foothills of the temple to actually gain access to the capital.
