Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Ground Work Begins

Visakhapatnam: The Metro Rail project in Visakhapatnam is one of the highly-awaited projects to come up in the city. With an estimated cost of Rs 8300 crores, the project already has faced a number of delays over the years but the state government has recently announced that the metro rail project would be completed in the next few years, for which the steps are put in motion.

Earlier reports suggested that the foundation stone for the project will be laid this February. The latest reports reveal that the officials surveyed different routes of metro rail in Visakhapatnam and analysed the routes where the lines are expected to be laid. Survey officials Vijaykumar, Ravichandra and other officials analysed the routes at Sheela Nagar, Akkireddypalem, Nathayyapalem, BHPV, Gajuwaka, and other areas in a two-hour-long survey.

A detailed reported has been prepared and the officials will be submitting it to the higher authorities shortly.

VMRDA (Visakhapatnam Metro Region Development Authority), assigned the responsibility in executing the project in Visakhapatnam will also be supervising the allocation of the stations, the sale of tickets, among others.

The metro rail is expected to cover over 42 km and the metro lines will run across three corridors in Visakhapatnam. The route of Gajuwaka to Kommadi would be laid as the first corridor whereas the other two will be placed along the routes of Gurudwara-Old Post Office and Thatichetlapalem-Chinna Waltair.
