Cyclone Phethai Lowers Hyderabad Temperature, Rains Expected: Helpline Numbers

Hyderabad: Just as cyclone Phethai passed the Andhra Pradesh sea coast between Yanam in Puducherry and Kakinada in East Godavari district, weather forecasters predict light to moderate rain in the city in the next 10 hours. In several places across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, rainfall with heavy to very heavy showers were recorded in the last 36 hours. The Windspeed is said to be 45-55 kmph.

Originated in Southwest Bay of Bengal, the cyclonic storm is expected to have devastating effects on life in coastal AP. Due to heavy rains, AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had to cancel his trip to Kakinada today.

Met officials predict thundershowers over the entire city, where temperatures have dipped in the last two days due to the cyclonic activity in Bay of Bengal. At the moment, the day temperature in Hyderabad is varying around 19°C while the average day temperature was around 27°C on Sunday and night temperature of 16.6°C. "The mercury levels in the nights will increase and a reversal in the day temperature," experts said.

Meanwhile, the South Central Railway (SCR) has cancelled over 50 trains in coastal Andhra Pradesh in view of the severity of cyclone Phethai. To ensure safe movement of trains, SCR made arrangements like surveillance and patrolling of the railway tracks.
