Prakasam: Former MP from Ongole YV Subba Reddy demanded the Andhra Pradesh government rehabilitate people from the villages that have been affected by Velingonda project. Protesting against the negligent attitude towards Veligonda project, the lifeline of Prakasam district, the senior YSRCP leader started his padayatra seven days ago from Kanigiri near here. The Padayatra has evoked overwhelming response from people drawn from all walks of life.

Speaking at a public meeting at Kakarla, Subba Reddy said it was unfair on the part of the government to deny compensation to Veligonda project victims in the name of assigned lands. The former Ongole MP promised to solve all the problems associated with the people who were affected by Veligonda project as soon as YSRCP comes to power. It was unfortunate that the AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was claiming excess water availability all across the state from Srikakulam to Chittoor, he said.

Subba Reddy pointed that Prakasam district was facing acute drinking water shortage, but Chandrababu seemed to be ignorant with regard to the severity of the problem. Parts of the district were reeling under severe drought while the other parts was affected by florine which had been the reasons for many deaths in the district. He said that Chandrababu was misguiding the people and postponing the completion of Veligonda project.

The YSRCP leader said it was sounding unrealistic when the government announced that water supply from Veligonda would start from Sankranthi festival (January). It was highly improbable that the works related to the project would be completed within four months despite Chandrababu terminating old contractors and appointing his proxies. He said it was time Chandrababu stopped lying and started working.

Subba Reddy further pointed out the irony of the state capital which was built with 40 years of political experience getting totally submerged.
