MUMMIDIVARAM: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched YSR Matsaykara Bharosa along with a slew of welfare measures and tore into his detractors for their false propaganda despite the good governance being tangible across the state while affirming that the decision of English Medium in primary schools was taken to prepare the gen next to face the highly competitive world in the coming days.

Addressing the gathering after the launch of YSR Matsyakara Bharosa here on Thursday, he said, the vested interested have been carrying out false and negative propaganda though our government has been giving top priority to people’s welfare and their hypocrisy has reached a peak as they opted English Medium education for their kin and are now talking as protagonists of Telugu.

‘My dream is only to see that the future generation will have a better system of education to face the global job market and the marginalized sections of the society will be vying with everyone on a level playing field,’ YS Jagan said.

When these vested interests come around to your place, ask them as to why their kin should study in English medium and why children of fishermen or other weaker sections should not study in the same medium. Our children are not meant for doing menial jobs, I see a future for them where they will also compete, match stride by stride with others in attire, accent and employment opportunities, he said.

Greeting fishermen on the World Fisheries Day, the Chief Minister said that under YSR Matsakara Bharosa, the allowance to fishermen given during the two-month non-fishing period was enhanced from Rs 4,000 to Rs 10,000 and it is directly credited to their bank accounts. The non-fishing period is from April 15 to June 15 and though our government was only 15 days in office, I thought it was my responsibility to honour the commitment.

During the 3,648 km padayatra, the promises made by me are being fulfilled one after the other and besides the enhanced allowance for the no-fishing period, I am proud to say that over 1.32 lakh fishermen families have benefited. This apart what has moved me was the plight of 16,500 fisherman families that lost livelihood during the drilling by GSPC in 68 villages of 8 mandals for a period of 13 months. The Corporation had paid only for six months and evaded the remaining exgratia and a prolonged struggle was carried out by the fishermen and they told their woes during my padayatra.

As promised, the balance amount of Rs 78.24 cores is now credited to the bank accounts on the World Fisheries Day and we always keep our word and go forward. This apart in case of risk for any fisherman, the insurance amount has been increased to Rs 10 lakh and the subsidy on diesel has been increased from Rs 6 to Rs 9 per litre. People operating the boats will be given ID cards and diesel will be supplied at subsidized rate at the point of filling station itself, he said.

In the coming days, jetties will be built from Srikakulam and downwards at all the required places and 794 helpers for fishermen are appointed in the Village Secretariats.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had visited the stalls and interacted with the community people. Deputy Chief Minister Pilli Subhashchandra Bose, ministers, Kanna Babu, Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao, Viswaroop, Avanti Srinivas, Perni Nani, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, TTD Chairperson YV Subba Reddy, MP Chintha Anuradha, and local MLA Satish Kumar were among those present on the occasion.
