YS Jagan In Dallas: Tells Investors Why AP Is Desired Destination

Amaravati, Aug 18: Showcasing Andhra Pradesh as a desired destination for investments, Chief Minister Sri YS Jagan Mohan Reddy gave an inspiring presentation of his Government policies and welfare schemes to the NRIs seeking their cooperation to be part of the progressive path.

Addressing the Telugu community at the Dallas Convention Centre on Saturday, the Chief Minister listed out the achievement of the Government during the past 2.5 months of governance which is aimed at providing corruption free and transparent governance.

For the first time in the history of our country, we have decentralised governance by setting up Village Volunteer system which will work with the Village Secretariats that will begin functioning from October 2.

The decentralisation is minutely worked out so that governance will be at the doorsteps of people and the Village Secretariats will be the delivery mechanism which will provide jobs to over four lakh people.

We are giving reservation to marginalised sections of society to all nominated posts and nominated works and such a thing has never happened ever, he said. Women empowerment is being done in a big way like never before which will change the economic standards of families as we are also bringing in prohibition in a phased manner.

We have foregone Hyderabad, where development was heavily concentrated, in the process of division of the state and our children are deprived of job opportunities. This is the reason for bringing in the legislation to reserve 75 % of jobs to locals.

Andhra Pradesh has another first to its credit as it has brought out a law for setting up a Preview Commission to finalise all contracts after keeping it on public domain for scrutiny and suggestions. We are also bringing in reverse tendering method to blunt the shady deals of the previous government.

Even our cabinet formation has seen the social justice with all sections getting due representation more so the backward classes, minorities, SCs, STs and women who secured about 60 % of the berths. Four from such sections were made Deputy Chief Ministers and important portfolios were given to them.

Water management, reforms in education system, priority to agriculture, rapid industrialisation are our focus areas and I have to draw your attention that we have inherited a huge debt from the previous dispensation. We have decided to review the PPAs due to the faulty policies of the previous government and the spiraling costs breaking the DISCOMs which owe Rs 20,000 crores.

If we are in a position to buy the power at a lower price it would help the investors is the main contention. The 974 km coastline will throw open opportunities. We have four ports and four more will come up. There is conducive atmosphere for investments and for the improvement of growth rate, he said
