Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram said notices were issued to three vernacular TV channels as they were broadcasting programmes in contravention of Assembly regulations.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, Tammineni Sitaram sought to clarify as to why they had issued the notices. He questioned the action of the channels' management as to how they could operate despite knowing the rules.

"You can wake up a person who is sleeping, but you cannot do anything when one is pretending to sleep," he quipped. Sitaram said that many "brilliant" Bills were tabled and debated in the House.

He said that the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had instructed the Business Advisory Council (BAC) that a full and comprehensive debate should be done.

"Only then one can understand the Bill and its contents in its entirety," he opined. YS Jagan had also suggested that the Assembly sessions could be extended for another three to four days to accommodate the debates.

Sitaram also clarified that there was no pressure on him and that YS Jagan had earlier said that there would be no pressure from their side either, contrary to what people were thinking.

"I will ensure that the Anti-Defection Law will be enforced and there will be no compromise about party mergers. I will not act against rules and regulations," he concluded.
