Special Measures To Tackle Crime Against Women, Children: AP DGP Gautam Sawang

Undavalli: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Gautam Sawang said that special measures would be taken to curb rising crime against women and children in the state, on Tuesday.

He was speaking on the second day at the Collectors Conference for the District Police officials and other senior officials, held in Praja Vedika at Undavalli, under the aegis of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The DGP at the onset welcomed the dignitaries and spoke about the need to curb white-collared crimes in the state. He mentioned that the crime rate against women in the districts of Krishna, Guntur, Visakhapatnam and Krishna. He also mentioned that there has been alarming rise in the rate of crime against children.

Rendering statistics that thousands of people were dying in road accidents, he said there was a need to prevent such horrific accidents and loss of life. For that, the police are planning to conduct awareness programs on Road safety.

He also mentioned that compared to last year, Cyber crimes also increased in the state.

He said that after bifurcation the state the state police faced great difficulties. The state wasn't allocated enough resources. The Police Academy, Forensic Labs , counter-terrorism training centres were retained in Hyderabad. Many of the main training centres are operating in temporary buildings.

He thanked the Chief Minister for implementing the weekly -offs for the police staff. He informed the chief minister that a comprehensive report was completed by the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Ravi Shankar Ayyanar.

The report was released by the Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy along with Home Minister M Sucharitha , Chief Secretary LV Subramanyam and DGP Gautam Sawang.

The state police decided to implement the new system based on the recommendations made by a committee headed by Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Ravi Shankar Ayyanar, in tune with an assurance given by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Police constables, head constables, assistant sub-inspectors, sub-inspectors and inspectors will get to avail a weekly day off under the new system.

The weekly-off system, which is currently being implemented on a trial basis in Visakhapatnam and Kadapa districts, will now be extended across the state, according to Director General of Police Gautam Sawang.

The Ayyanar committee came out with a set of 19 formulae for implementing the weekly-offs in various police wings, depending on the available staff strength and work load. The respective wings also submitted their proposals and requirements,the DGP said.

He said a separate IT platform was prepared to monitor effective implementation of the new system and ensure everyone got a weekly-off. Sawang said he would personally supervise the system and review its implementation once a month.
