Amaravati: Living up to his promise made during Padayatra, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed officials to make every possible effort to shutdown belt shops in the State by October 1.

Speaking to officials on the second day of Collectors' Conference on Tuesday, he said there should be no delay in enforcing good decisions that would benefit the people at large. There should be no sale of liquor alongside national highways. Efforts should be made to ensure that roadside Dabhas do not sell any alcohol. Hoardings should be put up highlighting road safety rules, he said.

The Chief Minister was categorical that before imposing penalties and fines, concrete measures should be taken for raising awareness. He asked officials to come up with specific plans to ease traffic woes in Vijayawada.

He also instructed police officials to take efforts to stop the cultivation of marijuana, particularly in tribal areas, for which he suggested them to carry out a special operation in August. In lieu of marijuana cultivation, he said tribals would be provided with other employment opportunities.
