Undavalli: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in a very emphatic tone put an end to the Praja Vedika row, stating that this would be the last Collectors' meeting in Praja Vedika, and the first demolition of illegal building would start with this building by the Government.

YS Jagan stated that the Praja Vedika building was constructed under blatant violations of all laws. It was an illegal building in every sense.

Firstly, it violated the River Conservation Act , the CRDA Master Plan, National Green Tribunal laws, building bye-laws and was built despite the Lok Ayukta recommendations stating that it was illegal.

YS Jagan also pointed out that the at the time of construction the executive engineer had expressed his reluctance to grant permission explicitly mentioning that the building was lower than the flood levels. The building stood at 19.5 metres whereas the flood level was at 22.5 metres. Yet the TDP government went ahead with the construction.

Moreover short tenders were called in a week's time and two bidders NCC and Ashoka Builders came forward, at the cost of Rs 5 crore. Ashoka was eliminated and the project was given to NCC and the cost hiked to Rs 8.5 crore.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy asked, " What would do we do when the common man indulges in such an activity... we issue orders for punitive action and demolition. But when people in the highest levels of governance flout rules, what moral authority do they have to question others" , he asked.
