Amaravati: Retired IAS officer M Samuel, who is already serving as an advisor to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has been given the additional and all-important assignment to oversee the implementation of Navaratnalu scheme as vice-chairman for the said committee. The State government issued orders to this effect on Saturday.
The appointment of a top bureaucrat to the said role, instead of a politician, suggests that YS Jagan accords a greater significance towards the implementation of Navaratnalu, which he had promised during electioneering.
Being in the Chief Minister's Office, he will coordinate with all the departments to ensure that promises made as part of Navaratnalu are implemented as planned. Samuel will have a Cabinet rank and will be in the said position for a period of three years, the government order stated.
Navaratnalu are a list of nine welfare schemes which YSRCP had promised in the run-up to the elections. These include fee reimbursement, YSR Raithu Bharosa, Aarogya Sri among others.
