Andhra Pradesh Know Your Minister: Perni Nani

The present MLA of the Machilipatnam assembly constituency, representing YSR Congress party in Krishna district, Perni Venkataramaiah took oath as the Cabinet Minister in YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Cabinet on Saturday.

He has been given the portfolio of Transport, I and PR in the Cabinet.

Perni Venkataramaiah defeated Kollu Ravindra of TDP by a margin of 6000 votes in Machilipatnam constituency with a total of 66141 votes.

In 2009 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, Perni Venkataramaiah won from the Machilipatnam constituency with the Congress ticket beating the RJD candidate by a margin of 11399 (8.89%) votes. Of the total votes polled, Perni Venkataramaiah secured 1,28,282 votes (37.87%). Previously, Perni Nani lost to Kollu Ravindra in 2014 elections by over 15,000 votes.

He first contested from Congress ticket as MLA in 1999 but lost. He later won as MLA from Congress in 2004 and 2009. Perni Nani worked as government whip in Kiran Kumar Reddy’s government in 2011.In 2013, he resigned as MLA to join YSRCP.
