With Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy granting general consent to the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) to probe any case in the state, Telugu Desam Party leaders at several levels are reported to be in a state of nervousness. It may be recalled that former AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu withdrew the general consent customarily given to the CBI to conduct investigations in the state through order in November 2018. It has been a practice for state governments to give consent to CBI for time frames ranging from six months to one year under the Delhi Police Establishments (DSPE) Act 1946.

The CBI and other central investigating agencies have seen consent as their jurisdiction is restricted to Delhi and union territories under this Act. Former CM Chandrababu Naidu's decision was viewed as a measure to block CBI from probing allegations of corruption against him and many other TDP leaders.

Chandrababu's decision prompted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to issue a similar order locking the entry of CBI into her state.

In consonance with his aim to ensure transparency in administration as also bring about normalcy in establishing a cordial relationship with the Centre, YS Jagan restored the practice of giving consent to CBI and other central agencies.

The CBI can now go ahead with investigations in the state without seeking prior permission of the AP government.

YSRCP Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy took to Twitter on Monday announcing that the YS Jagan government had issued orders allowing the CBI into AP.

His tweet said that Chandrababu had banned the CBI, prevented IT raids and questioned the jurisdiction of ED. With YS Jagan's orders, the chief minister has made it clear that looters will not be spared. He added a word of caution for Chandrababu asking him to watch out.
