Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu enjoys the dubious distinction of receiving a drubbing at the hands of a father-son duo in a rare instance in the history of Indian politics.

In 2004, late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy dethroned Chandrababu Naidu to bring Congress back to power in the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh.

Chandrababu had been in power for close to nine years at that time and was sent to the Opposition benches by the late Dr YSR. History repeated itself in 2019 on April 11, when people of the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh cast their vote in favour of Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy's son and chief minister-to-be YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who gave Chandrababu Naidu a sound drubbing.

The YSR Congress Party emerged triumphant in the electoral battle in AP with 151 seats reducing its political rival TDP to a paltry 23.

This marks a rare instance in which both father and son defeated an incumbent chief minister. Incidentally, this is the first time that Chandrababu Naidu staked out in an electoral contest on his own, securing the lowest ever tally for the TDP in its history.
