YSRCP To Move Court Against TDP Vote Tally In Guntur, Srikakulam LS Segments

YSR Congress Party candidates from the said constituencies Modugula Venugopala Reddy and Duvvada Srinivas are gearing up to challenge the TDP victories in both constituencies

Amaravathi: The TDP which is slowly coming to terms with its massive drubbing in the recent elections is at the heart of another controversy which might result in losing two of the only three Lok Sabha seats it won.

Alleging that there are irregularities in announcing winners in Guntur and Srikakulam Lok Sabha segments won by TDP candidates, YSR Congress Party candidates from the said constituencies Modugula Venugopala Reddy and Duvvada Srinivas are gearing up to challenge the TDP victories in both places. Their allegation is that the returning officers in both places have not followed the due process in declaring the winner only after counting all votes including the postal ballot. They allege that the ROs didn’t factor in postal ballots pointing out that there were minor discrepancies in the way postal ballots were recorded and stored.

In Guntur, TDP nominee Galla Jayadev managed to win the seat with slender majority of 4,205 against YSRCP’s Modgula Venugopal Reddy. Similarly, TDP’s Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu won Srikakulam seat with a slight majority of 6,658 votes. Given that the majorities are relatively smaller, YSRCP candidates allege it is illegal on the part of ROs to declare postal ballot as invalid pointing at some minor errors. The ROs have in both cases declared postal ballots running up to 9,000 votes as invalid as certain prescribed and mandatory 13-C was not written on the envelope.

YSRCP candidates say it is wrong on the part of election authorities not take into account 9,000 odd votes of postal ballots as this could significantly reverse the situation in terms of winner and loser.

Both Modugula Venugopal Reddy and Duvvada Srinivas along with party leaders called on party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at Tadepally residence on Monday and apprised him of their concerns. It is learnt that YS Jagan had given them a go-ahead on their suggestion on filing a petition in the court to challenge the TDP victories in both constituencies. At the latest, the YSRCP is said to file their petition on Wednesday. It is to be seen how TDP which is licking its wounds would react to this unexpected development.
